But The North Face® legend begins, ironically, on a beach. More precisely, San Francisco's North Beach neighborhood, at an altitude of only 150 feet above sea level. It was here in 1966 that two hiking enthusiasts resolved to follow their passions and founded a small mountaineering retail store.
Soon thereafter, that little shop became known as The North Face, a retailer of high-performance climbing and backpacking equipment. In 1968, The North Face moved to the other side of San Francisco Bay, to the unbridled possibilities of the Berkeley area, and began designing and manufacturing its own brand of technical mountaineering apparel and equipment.

By the early 1980s, The North Face was taking exploration to the outer limits of the ski world, adding extreme skiwear to the product offering. These were the days of pastels, neons, hair dye, and mohawks; they laid the groundwork for today's free-spirited snowsports athletes. By the end of the decade, The North Face became the only supplier in the United States to offer a comprehensive collection of high-performance outerwear, skiwear, sleeping bags, packs and tents.
The 1990s ushered in an era during which The North Face further broadened the outdoor world it helps athletes to explore. The decade saw our debut in the sportswear market with the launch of Tekware™, an innovative collection designed to provide rock climbers, backpackers, hikers, trail runners, and outdoor enthusiasts with the ultimate fit and function. Our standard shipping method is via UPS ground at a flat rate of $4.95. You should receive your merchandise within 3-5 business days from the day we successfully process your order. PLEASE NOTE: UPS will not deliver to P.O. Boxes.
APO, FPO, AE, CMR, other military and Puerto Rico addresses will ship via USPS only. A flat shipping charge of $4.95 will be applied to the order. APO/FPO orders may take 30-45 days for delivery.
For UPS 2-3 Business Day Air delivery, add an additional $9.00.
For UPS Next Business Day Air delivery, add an additional $18.00.
Express Shipping is available for in stock items ONLY. If multiple items are ordered, we will ship the in stock portion via the express service requested, and the balance via the express service as the items become available. APO, FPO, AE, CMR, other military and Puerto Rico addresses are not eligible for Express Shipping.
UPS Express orders must be successfully processed by 11:00 AM CST to be shipped the same business day. We do not ship on weekends. Next Day Air orders for in stock merchandise placed by 11:00 AM CST on Fridays will arrive the following Monday.
Shipping Outside the 48 Contiguous States
Journeys will ship to any U.S. destination serviced by UPS within the 48 contiguous states. Orders shipping to Alaska or Hawaii require Express Delivery.
UPS EXCEPTIONS: APO, FPO, AE, CMR, other military and Puerto Rico addresses will ship via USPS only. A flat shipping charge of $4.95 will be applied to the order.
Puerto Rico orders can take 3-4 weeks for delivery.

returns and exchanges
We will gladly refund or exchange any unworn merchandise in its original packaging with receipt within 30 days. Please be sure to check the fit and comfort of the merchandise before wearing. You may return the unworn merchandise by either shipping it back to us in its original packaging accompanied by the original receipt, or by returning it to a retail store near you. Some orders cannot be returned to stores. Web exclusives or online purchases paid with a PayPal/Bill Me Later account cannot be returned to stores. For Online/Catalog Only Returns, please see the "direct from manufacturers/paypal & bill me later returns and exchanges" section below.
Shipping charges are not refundable. However, if you choose to exchange an item, you will not be charged additional shipping and handling. Exchanges will be sent UPS Ground. Refunds will be issued in the original form of payment. Please allow 4-6 weeks for your return to be received, processed and to appear on your credit card statement.
In the event you need to return your order (or a portion of your order), a prepaid UPS label has been included with your order. For quickest processing, please affix that prepaid label to the outside of the box for your return.
